What is UUPC? I have(recently) started using UUCP quite extensively. I was wondering if someone might clarify this for me. Thanks..

Where can I get a copy of UUPC(for a PC/XT running MSDOS)? And after I have it, how do I become hooked in to the net? Thanks...

My sincere apologies for my error. I in no way wished to mis-state the position of UUPC as a program. Please see Samual Lam's earlier posting regarding the distribution of UUPC. I was mistaken in my assumption that UUPC was freeware. A couple of questions about UUPC.. 1) What FTP sites is it available from? I have heard that I could get it from simtel20.arpa, but i get a connect: connection refused Also, uunet.UU.NET, may have it, and if it does, where is it? 2) Does anyone know about sites that I could connect to here(in the LA area)? Or is it possible to get hooke up to UCLA or something? 3) If I get UUPC, can I have a USENET newsfeed? If so, how? Reply via mail, please.. ---------------------------------------------------------- BITNET: inq1axa@uclamvs.BITNET also internet, but please send it to the BITNET account, NOT the internet one.. My problem involves that noble enterprise UUPC. We have been running that program at a large number of sites (120+) and for the most part have enjoyed a great success. However, here in Kentucky we are running over what can only be descibed as funky wires. Other packages (like KERMIT or PROCOMM) do not have as much of a problem. Has any one else tinkered with or substituted another COMM black box? Or is the distributed COMM.ASM about as robust as could be found? Comments or help will be appreciated. -- jeff davis davis@keats.ca.uky.edu part of the world of American bad actors who, when the chips are down, go to Florida... Ninety-Two in the Shade by Thomas McGuane Changing COMM won't help the data; you might wish to try MNP (tm) error correcting modems. The next release of UUPC/extended should include a slightly brighter error counting scheme to abort only after 20 consecutive errors rather than 20 errors overall; I should, however, note, that I haven't actually written this fix ... yet. While we're on the subject of UUPC... One of the difficulties with 1.06 apparently lay in its tendency to hang at odd moments during transfer. Something about a 0 length packet etc. We have a number of our sites who have upgraded to 1.07j and are proceeding swimmingly. Others have had to reinstall 1.06 since the program balks even during the dial-up....or during the original synchronization sequences immediately after logging on...or somewhere else entirely. Is there a way to patch 1.06 with the "fix" for the 0 length packet. Or am I really just confusing issues here? As a virtual layman regarding these things, I feel like I'm pointing to an alternator and calling it the vermifuge. Many thanks for your patience and comments. -- jeff davis davis@keats.ca.uky.edu part of the world of American bad actors who, when the chips are down, go to Florida... We're looking for a cheap/free UUCP implementation running under Messy DOS. Grape.ecs.clarkson.edu is the canonical distribution point. And, it's callable
by modem: (315)268-6667. Look in pub/msdos/uupc.

beni@tglobe2.UUCP (Beni Ruef) recently informed us: > >P.S. What happened with fsuucp ? The mother of all bugs... (Yeah, I hate that phrase, too :-)) Actually, there *is* a bug in the uucico programme that isn't getting as much time as it should lately because of school (which is why fsuucp is shareware and not commercial. i can't devote the time to it and the support to it that i'd like to). I'm pretty confident that i've fixed it, though, and am just being double-sure before releasing it. >"UNIX is the answer - what was the question ?"
