>From: Kyle Jones <uunet!postmaster> > >No, but if you can come up with a small data set that generates >the bug Peter Honeyman would probably be quite interested to hear >from you. Anybody know Peter Honeyman's address? I've found a small data set that will cause bad behaviour in pathalias 9.4, but not in pathalias 9.1. Is he really the right person to look at it? I'm going to throw this out to you all and also am going to look at it myself. I have a vested interest in the outcome, after all! The problem appears to be what my first take on it was. In the following map set, which is the maps for world, moon, island, and the entries for moon and island from uunet, there is a long chain of terminated sites. I think that "world!uunet!<moon>!<island>!<uunet>" is causing the flip out. Removing the terminators from any one of the elements makes everything work as expected. I'm going to include several things. First is the data set that causes the problem to appear. Let's call it "testmaps". Then I'll include outputs from both pathalias 9.4 and 9.1 for comparison. testmaps -- world uunet(DEDICATED) uunet <moon>(DEMAND), island(DEMAND) moon <island>(DIRECT+FAST), <well>(DEMAND+FAST) island <uunet>(DEMAND+FAST), <sun>(DEMAND+FAST), <grenada>(DEMAND+FAST), <moon>(DEMAND+FAST), <well>(DEMAND+FAST), <pixar>(DEMAND+FAST), <unicom>(DAILY), <world>(DAILY) -- The output from `pathalias9.1 -c -l world testmaps`: -- 0 world %s 95 uunet uunet!%s 395 island uunet!island!%s 5395 unicom uunet!island!unicom!%s 615 pixar uunet!island!pixar!%s 615 well uunet!island!well!%s 615 grenada uunet!island!grenada!%s 615 sun uunet!island!sun!%s 395 moon uunet!moon!%s -- The output from `pathalias9.4 -c -l world testmaps`: -- 0 world %s -2094961896 moon uunet!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!%s -2094962196 well uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!well!%s -2094962296 island uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!%s -1994957296 world uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!world!%s -1994957296 unicom uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!unicom!%s -1994962076 pixar uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!pixar!%s -1994962076 grenada uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!grenada!%s -1994962076 sun uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!sun!%s -1994962076 uunet uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!moon!island!uunet!%s -- -- John Harkin +1 415 472-2452 uunet!moon!jh jh@nbn.com North Bay Network - News and mail for Marin county and vicinity

Actually, for any smail3 users, it is just Peter.Honeyman, any reference to a machine name is unnecessary, as long as the system can reach the Internet. -- tron |-<=>-| ARPAnet: veritas!tron@apple.com tron@veritas.com UUCPnet: {amdahl, apple, pyramid}!veritas!tron
