You might look into the current version, 18.41, for a lot of nifty X stuff. Unfortunately, it sounds like you want X to do your window management for you as it should, rather than Emacs (e.g. having find-file-other-window make a new geographically-distinct X window that can be iconified, etc) and that's just not there yet. A while back, there was some considerable discussion by people working on it; any progress yet, anyone? Nothing conclusive happened in the Final Release of Emacs 18. Or is this another "fixed in X11 and Emacs 19" sort of thing? --Bob

Does anyone know of a version of GNU Emacs with more support for X than 17.64? Specifically I'm looking for Emacs windows implemented as subwindows of the Emacs main window... Anyone seen such a thing? -Salvador. /------------------------------------------------------------------------\ |ARPA: salvador%lisvax.dec@decwrl.dec.com | |UUCP: ...!mcvax!lisvax.dec!unlai!spa | |PSI/VMS: PSI%+268005010310::SPA | |Snail: Salvador Pinto Abreu Phone: + 351 1 295 31 56 | | Dept.Informatica, U.Nova de Lisboa, 2825 Mte Caparica, Portugal| \------------------------------------------------------------------------/
