[ Many thanks to Bob & Karl at osu-eddie for their help ] Free Software Foundation GNU products via UUCP are provided solely as a redistribution service. Anything found here is exactly as it would be found on osu-eddie (where we got it), which is exactly as it would be found if you were to acquire it from the indicated internet hosts via anonymous FTP (where osu-eddie got it). See the GNU Distribution document (emacs/etc/DISTRIB) and the GNU Emacs General Public License (emacs/etc/COPYING) for licensing info. No guarantee or responsibility is assumed for the contents of any of the distributions described here. How to reach dsndata ==================== Here is an example of L.sys or Systems file lines for dsndata: dsndata Any ACU 2400 1-402-476-9480 ogin:-^M-ogin: gnu word: gnu Modify as appropriate for your site. This is a time restricted login; that is, dsndata will not allow logging in via this name outside the time period 2300-0700. No real connection mileage estimates are available as of yet. For the sake of uucp sanity, larger distributions are split into multiple files of 100k or less. These multi part distributions are extracted with a command such as: % cat emacs.tar.Z-?? | zcat | tar xvf - Do not request files to be transferred using a command like: % uucp dsndata!~/emacs/emacs.tar.Z-\* /some/local/directory This will fail for security reasons. You must issue a separate uucp command for each file you want. These instructions exists as the file ~/instructions, and will be updated as new distributions and diffs come out and are made available. It is recommended that you check this file to ensure current information. When we run out of problems to solve, this planet will become a boring place. If you have any problems, please let me know. Denny dsndata!denny ================================================================== GNU Emacs --------- From /u2/emacs/edist.tar-18.41.Z on prep.ai.mit.edu GNU Emacs is available in 34 parts: ~/emacs/emacs.tar.Z-[aa-bh] The first 33 parts are each 100,000 bytes long, the 34th is 96,021 bytes long. There are no diffs available at this time. GNU Bison --------- From the /u2/emacs/bison directory on prep.ai.mit.edu (03-29-87) GNU Bison is available in ~/bison/bison.tar.Z It is 75,851 bytes in length. GNU Chess --------- From /usr/ftp/pub/gnuchess.tar on venera.isi.edu (3.19.87) GNU Chess is available in 4 parts: ~/chess/chess.tar.Z-[aa-ad] The first 3 parts are each 100,000 bytes long, the 4th is 21,253 bytes long. GNU C Compiler -------------- From the /u2/emacs/gcc directory on prep.ai.mit.edu GNU Gcc is available in 11 parts: ~/gcc/gcc.tar.Z-[aa-ak] The first 10 parts are each 100,000 bytes long, the 11th is 54,128 bytes long. You should also pick up the file ~/gcc/install-bugs, which is a snapshot of prep:/u2/emacs/gcc-install-bugs as of 10:16am on March 29, 1987, and read it before you attempt installation and use of gcc. I am asked to emphasize that gcc is still very, very beta-test in nature, and the purpose for its distribution is to involve the community in finding and fixing those beta-bugs.
