[comp.emacs] gnuemacs rnews

sshurr@wellesley.EDU (Scott Shurr) (05/01/87)

I'm seeking help in installing/using the rnews feature of Gnu emacs.

I'm relatively new at UNIX, so please forgive my ignorance. We're
using a vax/ultrix system, and are only connected to the network via
CSNET. We receive the USENET news via the redistribution to ARPANET.
The way it works now is that ARPANET sends each news group to a separate
alias on our system. Sendmail then sends each message to a bulletin
board system that we use here for local messages.

I took a look at rnews.el and paths.el and get the impression that what
should happen is that sendmail should be configured to send the news
messages to a program called inews, which will put the messages into
the news-path directory from which they can be read by rnews. Is this
right? If this is the case, where can I get the inews program? Can
someone let me know how these parts should all work together?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone out there can offer.
