Having looked at the rnews program for GNUemacs, I have a question. Before I go hacking the code to pieces, does anyone know of a simple way to make rnews use rrn (remote rn) which connects to NNTP? We are a bunch of workstations which use a central news server, via NNTP. Michael I. Bushnell a/k/a Bach II hi!turing!mike@hc.dspo.gov

Since 18.41 has code for maintaining TCP connections, you could implement NNTP in emacs lisp and talk directly to the server. In fact, I was thinking about doing this until thesis (*) got in the way. * thesis (the' sis) A medieval form of torture in which the subject's brain is ground up and smeared on the computer console. I will be very interested in whatever comes of an effort to produce an NNTP reader client for emacs, and I will be glad to answer any questions that a developer might have. Erik E. Fair ucbvax!usenet usenet@ucbvax.berkeley.edu
