Running version 18.?? the variable setting (setq backup-by-copying t) doesn't work as advertized. To recreate the bug, make a file with two links, set the variable as above, change one of the files instances, save it, and examine the other. It will be unchanged. My profound apologies if this has already been fixed, and if it has, would someone tell me how? -- :James P.
