While I still think there is a bug when executing a buffer (f1) from a startup file (rc) through a command line emacs f1 f2 @rc I have found a workaround. I remember thinking, when I first created this rc file under 3.7, that what I really needed was some way to get the user's home directory so I wouldn't have to load f1 and f2. It turns out, although it isn't in the manual, buried in the revision history is a new function "&env", which does exactly that! This morning, I spent a little time on the rc file and the csh alias that calls it and got the command line down to emacs @rc And, it works! Thank you Daniel Lawrence, et alia. Great job! Now for a couple of suggestions, none of which may be possible. Two are directed toward Unix environments. 1. Vertically separated windows for users with 132 column terminals, or people who look at narrow files. 2. Use/support of curses and termcap/terminfo. 3. Ability to run a shell in a window like the big emacs do. Again, thanks for the new release. It is much appreciated here. -- Bob Peirce, Pittsburgh, PA 412-471-5320 uucp: ...!{allegra, bellcore, cadre, idis, psuvax1}!pitt!investor!rbp NOTE: Mail must be < 30K bytes/message
