[comp.emacs] help for VMS gnu

sshurr@wellesley.EDU (10/14/87)

Hello,
I'm seeking help on debugging gnu emacs (18.45) on VMS (4.5) 8550.
The problem I'm trying to solve is that when I invoke M-x info
I get the message:
Invalid function: [0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 .....

In an attempt to locate this bug, I did
M-x set-variable debug-on-error t
and then did M-x info again. The result was:
Entering debugger:
Invalid function: [3 3 3 3 3 3 3 ......
The "Entering debugger:" message appears very briefly and is followed
by the Invalid function message.

In both cases emacs goes into Info mode and remains there until I press q.
But the info text is not displayed and any Info command that should display
it causes the same error.

It appears to me that the real error is in the code that attempts to display
information about some invalid function (whereever that code is). Knowing
the name of the invalid function would help a lot! Has anyone out there
experienced and/or solved this problem? By the way, we also have the same
version of gnu running on an Ultrix 2.0 system and everything appears to
be just fine. Thanks in advance for any help.

P.S. - Does the vms-gnu-emacs@harvard.harvard.edu list still exist? I
attempted to join that list but never received any response. And that's
why this is posted here.
