[comp.emacs] Is there an emacs for HP9000/540 ruinning HP-UX 5.11 or 5.21?

If so, how do I get it. I've tried scame, uemacs and gnuemacs. The first
bombs out, the second doesn't compile and the third needs a major revision
in the lisp part since the series 500 are stack machines (we are trying to
rewrite gnueamcs 17.49 for the 500 and no major problems yet. It will take
time, though until we're done - if ever).

HP-UX is said to be SYSV SVID compatible. God only knows...

We've traded in our 500's now (for an 840), but we did have GNU-EMACS
17.4x running quite happily - though it was a REAL STINKER to get
working.

Preloading does not appear to be possible due to the different
architecture on the 500. GNU-EMACS loads VERY slowly if you don't
preload it. The one possibility I was thinking about was to create some
shared memory for the section of data which normally gets merged in with
the code and made sharable.

The strange pointers a 500 uses cause alot of trouble but I did succeed
in making it work.

If you want to see where I got to then I could probably send you a bunch
of patches (or a cartridge tape) for making the version I had at the
time (which is not the latest).

Has anyone out there sussed preloading on a 500?

Jules
