[comp.emacs] challenge: RMAIL 'extract conversation' command

grover@potomac.UUCP (Mark D. Grover) (11/03/87)

Here's a challenge for someone... Assume that my correspondents and I
use 'reply' a lot in RMAIL. Assume that I keep FCC's of my outgoing
mail, and that I file most of my useful incoming mail in some RMAIL
file in one of several mail subdirectories.

Is anyone interested in writing a command that takes the "current"
mail message and constructs a new RMAIL-mode buffer which contains all
of the mail pointing (back and forward) through the chain of
Message-IDs in the "In-reply-to" fields? This could be called M-x
extract-conversation. Problem: it should be ordered by the Date field
if possible (since there may be multiple chains of replies from
multiple correspondents). This breaks down if someone does not use
'reply', but it's still valuable with that assumption.

Enjoy...
