I would like to place the emacs window at the top left corner of my root window--have experimented with the x-switches w/out success. Could someone give me the proper form of the x-switches variable so I don't have to mouseclick? i.e. (setq x-switches '( ("-w" . '(whatever)) ) ) P Harbo DEC/Littleton

Try: (setq x-switches '(("-w" ."=80x24x10x10"))) This will put an 80x20 window at 10,10 without you having to hit your mouse. Can anyone let me know how to conditionally load my X stuff in my .emacs depending on whether I am in an X window or an ascii terminal? g. This is in Ver 18.47 and I assume earlyer... it contains the name of the window system that emacs is invoked under... if you are running emacs in an xterm without the X interface then this should not be set... test this variable and then do do what you like if it is X. /Bob -- mende@rutgers.edu {...}!rutgers!mende mende@zodiac.bitnet On the other hand, life can be an endless parade of TRANSSEXUAL QUILTING BEES aboard a cruise ship to DISNEYWORLD if only we let it!!
