[comp.emacs] guru wanted re GnuEmacs mail

george@scirtp.UUCP (Geo. R. Greene, Jr.) (11/06/87)

Today I read the March 1987 manual describing version 18 of
GnuEmacs. I was quite amazed to find that rmail is the only
kind of mail that is talked about.
Taste in applications that process mail tends to vary more
widely than other kinds of taste.
It would seem to me that The Right Thing would involve
having some sort of hole for which a send-mail strategy
and a read-mail strategy would be the pegs.
If anybody would feel warm, fuzzy, and superior as a result
of explaining this to me, then now's your chance.

Sometimes I'm so sweet even *I* can't stand it.

Well, if you want an example of another mail interface, look at mh-e.el,
the interface to MH. Of course, making it talk to Mail/mailx would be a
bit difficult... but then, making GNUmacs talk to Mail/mailx would be a bit
difficult.
