[comp.emacs] Problems with GNU 18.49 on a Sequent Symmetry

heiser@ethz.UUCP (Gernot Heiser) (01/20/88)

We had versions 18.41 and 18.49 both running nicely on our Sequent Balance
(ns32000). However, since upgrading to a Symmetry (i8386) (and recompiling, of
course) version 18.49 is not running properly any more, while 18.41 still semms
to work alright. Here is a description of the problems encountered:

When compiling emacs I get the following message:
		cc -O -Demacs -c scroll.c &22096
	Optimizer: unknown opcode: 'start:'
I don't know if that has any serious implication, since scrolling seems to work
with the dumped emacs. However, some commands cause emacs to crash with a
segmentation fault, among others this happens with the commands "C-X C-N" and
"C-X C-P".

Does anybody know what's wrong here?
