I am really sorry if this starts up a war ... I am looking for OBJECTIVE, NON-PARTIAL, NON-EMOTIONAL, INTELLIGENT, LOVING :-) articles comparing various text editor/word processors - primarily Unipress Emacs vs GNU Emacs vs vi vs Rand/ISC Ten +/ISC INed varietys. I have been on the net a number of years so I have seen the hysterical discussions - I dont need any more of these. I also am aware that there is a cost / availability difference. What I am wanting is some kind of best / worst features of each editor - IN ISOLATION. That is, I dont care to hear that vi is better than INed because - I would like to hear that vi has this neat feature that is very useful to do that. I would PREFER to get existing documents or pointers to existing books. Secondarily, I would prefer to get the appropriately written toned articles (see above for criteria :-) from folks who use a particular editor extensively/ exclusively. Comments from someone who says "I dont use editor X because it sucks" etc (you know, the standard flame postings :-)) are not needed. I can get those about every 3-4 months by reading this group and comp.editors. Sorry, this site doesnt get comp.editors so I couldnt cross-post there where this REALLY belongs (I do have read access to it, though). Anyways, the bottom line is that I really want to STRONGLY urge folks to MAIL me PRIVATE, PERSONAL, REPLY-like messages - PLEASE DON'T POST YOUR RESPONSES. If you have a DOCUMENT that you would like to share, perhaps a posting to comp.doc or comp.doc.techreport (for an abstract) would be appropriate. Otherwise, I would rather not be the scapegoat for the latest bandwidth waster... Thanks fellow tele-tics.... -- Larry W.
