[comp.emacs] compiling gnu emacs on a 3B5

geoff@USAFA.ARPA (Capt Geoff Mulligan) (02/17/88)

I have tried to compile 18.49 on my 3B5, but so far without much luck.
Actually everything compiles but then when ld starts I get the following
error

        ld -o temacs pre-crt0.o /lib/crt0.o dispnew.o scroll.o xdisp.o window.o term.o cm.o emacs.o keyboard.o macros.o keymap.o sysdep.o buffer.o filelock.o insdel.o marker.o minibuf.o fileio.o dired.o filemode.o cmds.o casefiddle.o indent.o search.o regex.o undo.o alloc.o data.o doc.o editfns.o callint.o eval.o fns.o print.o lread.o abbrev.o syntax.o unexec.o mocklisp.o bytecode.o process.o callproc.o doprnt.o terminfo.o lastfile.o malloc.o -lcurses -lPW -lc
ld warning: memory allocation failure on 1970-byte 'malloc' call
ld fatal: run is too large and complex
*** Error code 13

Can anyone help. I have modified my kernel so that the maxmem is 1024
pages.

	Thanks for the help.

Yeah, I think you may need to change it to 2048 pages. You should, anyway,
since emacs is a memory hog. We did that, and it appeared to work fine.
