I would appreciate an explanation for the inconsistent behavior I observe with rmail: It positions the window on the first un-read message if I am looking at my mail inbox, but when using rmail-input on some other mail format file the window is positioned on the last message. I would like to have an easy fix to make rmail-input always position the window on the first un-read message. Evidently rmail can do it, but I don't yet see how. Any suggestions? Also, does anyone know why emacs (18.47) writes to the tty so early in the start-up initializations? When I try starting emacs in the background (on BSD 4.2, "emacs &") it stops for tty output very quickly. When brought to the foreground it stays busy for a much longer time before doing the first "redraw" of the screen. -- Gordon W.
