[comp.emacs] Gnews--I'm back

weemba@garnet.berkeley.edu (Matthew P Wiener) (05/26/88)

Hi, I'm back. Before I make any more versions, I have to make a basic
decision: should I split the source files up into about 15 or so pieces?

From my point of view, it makes it easier to work on Gnews and mail out
copies, and permit selective loading. And of course, things like a de-
fault site initialization file will fit in naturally with all this.

The major reason it's in 3 big files is at FSF request long ago to keep
the number of files small. However, Gnews is not up to the FSF standards
yet--I always feel I'm halfway there--and its humongous size may prevent
its official inclusion anyway. If it does get accepted, I can always re-
join the pieces.

If it matters to you one way or the other, let me know. I'll probably not
start cranking away for another 2-3 weeks, other than the infotex manual.
