rbj@icst-cmr.arpa just mentioned that it would be nice to have shell-mode `up-down' history. I wrote such a beast about a year back when I was still in need of a VMS-style interface; it builds a list of all shell commands entered with RET, with optional exclusion of csh history commands (!whatever). By default, the up/down functions are bound to ANSI arrow key sequences, but only when at eobp - elsewhere these keys behave normally. I must say that I don't use it all that much these days, but if anyone is interested... I installed it as a standard here to help our folks cross from VMS to Unix.. via GNU of course!
