I just saw the article from J. Noel Chiappa dated Jan 14, 1986 concerning TWG (The Wollongong Group) subnet support or lack of it, and his comments concerning their attitude and accessibility. Since we are a Eunice site and use TWG's IP/TCP package, I was somewhat dismayed at the thought that TWG might not provide appropriate enhancements to their product in a timely manner, so I called a knowledgable marketing person that I know at TWG. I had no problem getting him on the phone, and he provided the following information. He said that he had seen comments on the net about whether they would support subnets, and that this had been an issue at TWG for at least six months. Right now, they have only had two sites express an interest in their product supporting subnets. Therefore, there is some question in their minds whether there is any need to rush to provide subnet support. I told him that, since Arpanet seems to be running out of network numbers, I expect that once 4.3bsd is released, there will be a lot of interest in subnets. He said he understood, and advised me that TWG would shortly have a 4.2bsd eunice, then later have a 4.3bsd eunice and IP/TCP from 4.3bsd, at which time subnets would certainly be supported. He said there would be an announcement by TWG at Uniforum. Finally he mentioned that TWG offers a package called eunice SV/BSD, which includes the system v utilities, and has been working on a straight eunice system v. Peter W.
