It would be nice to have a multi-shells as a gnu emacs feature, but it not difficult to get two or more shell-mode windows with the current setup. All you have to do is to rename the *shell* buffer via M-x rename-buffer, and the next M-x shell command will create a new shell-mode buffer named *shell*.
