[comp.emacs] Problem with version 3.8 of GNUS

harry@rainbow.atmos.washington.edu (Harry Edmon) (09/21/88)

I cannot get GNUS 3.8 running. When I select a news group, it bombs with a
"illegal function" error. The problem seems to be in nntp-header-number,
but since I am a novice emacs hacker, I'm not sure what the problem is.

I've got the same problem but byte-compiling first nntp.el, then
nnspool.el and as the last file gnus.el in a fresh gnu-emacs with no
files in any buffer and no files loaded has helped.

I think when I first tried to compile I'd loaded some of the gnus
files before and at least gnus.el was read into an edit buffer.
