I would like to thank Stephen Walton, Bob Larson and Sandra Loosemore, who all informed me that mg, version 2a was posted to comp.sources.misc and includes VMS support in the standard distribution. It should be available from archive sites like uunet.uu.net. Thanks also to Steve Grout, who reports: >Tho I have not made 'mg2a' under vms, I earlier made mg1a and several >variants of microemacs (probably 3.8 and 3.9?). Other than getting >the Makefile to know where libraries and includes are under vms >(by using 'define' aliases), the technique was to merely keeping >compiling and let VMS tell you what you had yet to 'align'. Took >about 3-4 runs and I was up and running. > >Other than the above, I had to only review the usual configuration >setting '.h' file mentioned in the 'readme' and do some obvious >settings. Now for a further request. I would like to get ahold of (the full distributions of) both jove 4.9 and mg2a. Sites like uunet.uu.net seem to be on internet and want a requestor to ftp sources. (At least that is what I infer from Rich Salz's postings on how to get sources from comp.sources.unix.) Our site is not on internet and, being a public institution dependent on a state legislature for funds, is perpetually short of money to pay for downloading large source archives. I would be happy to pay for the downloading costs out of my own pocket, but I am not connected to internet either (surprise). Is there some kind soul out there in netland who can either transfer one or both of those editor distributions to floppies (I will send the floppies) or who knows of sites (preferably near Indiana) where I can DIAL UP and download those sources using either KERMIT or XMODEM (not UUCP)? A third alternative (if I can arrange to reimburse BSU for the phone calls) would be a source from which we can uucp the distributions of jove4.9 and mg2a. This latter alternative may prove either possible or impossible, but I would appreciate any leads I can get. I will summarize any information to the net if there is interest. Thank you. -- Paul Neubauer neubauer@bsu-cs.UUCP <backbones>!{iuvax,pur-ee}!bsu-cs!neubauer
