I will leave gnu-emacs specific advice to those with more extensive knowlege
of it's inards; but I do have some experience with VAXstations. We have
several in-house running VMS, and on the rare occasions when we have tried
to use the serial ports, we have experienced character lossage at baud rates
as low as 4800. I don't know how much of this is VMS overhead, and how
much is bad hardware design. We have also experienced some character
loss when using DECnet remote login and 60 line Ambassador screens.

If the problem does turn out to be character dropping and you are using
ANSI (vt100) terminals, you might want to add the following line to your
termcap: (is Ultrix bsd or Sys V?)
	:DC=\E[%dP:DL=\E[%dM:IC=\E[%d@:AL=\E[%dL:
This declares the parameterized versions of delete/insert character/line.
This is also VERY helpful when running directly on a Sun workstation.

We've seen the problem with Zenith H19s and IBM PCs running KERMIT,
and possibly Datamedia 1520s. I tried changing the padding for the H19s
in /etc/termcap, and all I managed to do was slow down the screen
displays - it didn't fix the problem.

As for the problem of the 'goto' command putting the cursor at the
end of the border above the minibuffer, I ran emacs on a terminal that
can show the control characters, and emacs is generating a cursor address
string to put the cursor there (as far as I can tell).

I am having trouble running GNU emacs on televideo 965 terminal (under
system V). The termcap is set for tvi950, since I don't have anything
better. The display keeps getting messed up, even on cursor movement.
I would appreciate any help in the matter. Thanks.
