[comp.emacs] Lisp vs Scheme in GNU Emacs

jameson@cpsc.ucalgary.ca (Kevin Jameson) (11/18/88)

Could anyone comment on the reason why Lisp was chosen instead of Scheme
for GNU Emacs. I know that the historical Emacs editor family has always
used Lisp, and that Lisp is the local environment language at MIT, but
Scheme has also been around for a decade at MIT. I don't know the deep
issues of the languages well enough to see why Lisp would be better than
Scheme or vice versa. Can anyone in the know shed some light?

Thanks.
