[comp.emacs] GNU Emacs for Sun 3/60

cape@ncrcce.StPaul.NCR.COM (Robert Cape) (12/01/88)

After happily using MicroEmacs on numerous machines, after hearing glowing
testamonials for GNU Emacs, and after the arrival of our Suns with
>>vi<<, I need some assistance:

I'd like to know where I can get a copy of the latest GNU Emacs to
run on a Sun 3/60 and 3/280S.

o What is the latest version of GNU?
o What all is needed for this?
o Can/does GNU use the Suntools environment?
If so, is a separate version needed for Suntools and VT100 use?

If anyone can enlighten me on this, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

Bob

You can ftp it from prep.ai.mit.edu (see /u2/emacs) or
tut.cis.ohio-state.edu (see pub/gnu/emacs/18.52), or you can UUCP it
from osu-cis (see <8811171553.AA02726@cheops.cis.ohio-state.edu> in
comp.archives for details on getting to osu-cis and getting
instructions about things from it).

18.52.
The complete distribution; about 4.7Mbytes, compressed.
Yes, if you supply the right options during build.
No.

If anyone else in the upper midwest area is looking for GNU software
in addition to GNU EMACS I am willing to provide a tape as my time
permits. I try and maintain the latest version from ohio state via
UUCP access (thank you {\it very} much osu-cis) and don't see a reason
to pay the Bell system any more money than 3M already does.

Please contact me by phone if you are interested and please restrict
inquires to the upper midwest area. ("Silicon Tundra" hangs together :-))
