Readers of this newsgroup, I am the one responsible for maintaining GNU-type software on our system (networked Sun-3's running SunOS 3.2). I have installed: GNU Emacs 18.52.5 of Sun Dec 11 1988 on nrl-enterprise (berkeley-unix) on our system, and the 'shell' command does not work. Some hopefully help- ful observations: 1) The command apparently executes up to reading the .cshrc file and print- ing the initial prompt; then it hangs. 2) The command does not hang when running emacstool on the console. 3) The command hangs when run from a different account having a different .cshrc and .emacs. I suspect the problem is related to 3.2, as 18.52 on another system run- ning 3.5 runs 'shell' without any problem. Is anyone familiar with this? Danke. ***************************************************************************** * Steven A Carrow * ARPA: carrow@itd.nrl.navy.mil * * Code 5570 * UUCP: {backbone}!uunet! * * Naval Research Lab * nrl-css!carrow (I think) * * Washington, DC 20375 * Disclaimer: I can barely speak for * * (202) 767-9125 * myself, much less the government. * *****************************************************************************
