[comp.emacs] Finding references in bibliography files

Ram-Ashwin@cs.yale.edu (Ashwin Ram) (12/20/88)

I'm looking for GNU Emacs functions to search bibliography files for
references, something similar to refer(1), for example. I would like to be
able to invoke a function, type in one or more keywords, and have Emacs visit
the .bib file containing a reference in which those keywords appear and
position itself at that reference. A "next-occurrence" function would also
be nice, as well as a function to specify a list of .bib files to use.

I know, this looks a lot like the "tags" utility, except that tags tables
for .bib files contain only the citation keyword, and I'd like to be able to
search for keywords in all fields. For example, I might type in

        knuth cacm sorting

to find articles on sorting written by Knuth for the CACM, i.e., paragraphs
in .bib files in which the strings "knuth", "cacm" and "sorting" appear,
whereas the "tags" entry for this reference would be something like "knuth78".

Variations on this theme would be fine. Thanks.
