[comp.emacs] Excluding Fortran mode in GNU emacs

STEINBERGER@KL.SRI.COM (Richard Steinberger) (03/27/89)

I am running GNU emacs version 18.52 on a VAX running VMS 5.0. Emacs
always seems to come up in Fortran mode when the file extent is "f" or
"for". I don't like some of the features of the GNU fortran mode and
would prefer that the editor come up in text mode. Could someone offer
a suggestion as to how to prevent GNU emacs from automatically entering
Fortran mode. (I usually type "<ESC>text" to enter text mode, but I
would like to avoid always having to do this.) Thanks to all who
reply.

Please reply directly to me if possible, as I don't often get the chance to
follow comp.emacs.
