[comp.emacs] *shell* and GNU

mike5@rruxjj.UUCP (michael rabinowitz) (03/27/89)

I can't seem to get 'M-x shell' to work. Actually, it looks like anything
that I try to run as an interactive, inferior process doesn't work.
I get an error message like this:

Process shell terminated abnormally with 1

or something like that. The word 'shell' can be substituted with whatever
I'm trying to run.

Ideas?

We ran into this problem when upgrading from one (minor) version of ultrix
to another, the values of some ioctls have changed and an interactive
subprocess created by emacs becomes a zombie. Our systyem manager has
promised to recompile emacs under the new release and fix this.
