Is there any way to get GNU Emacs of version >18.52 to look for info files elsewhere than where the system-wide files are kept? Charlie Martin (crm@cs.duke.edu,mcnc!duke!crm)

I recently asked a similar question and in trying to figure out what info does, discovered the following. The variable Info-directory in ../lisp/paths.el controls where the files will be found. I changed this to where I had some other info files, but C-h i complains and refuses to startup unless there is an info directory file; dir. It would nice if there was someway to tell info to run on a set of nodes not in the normal place and with no dir file being present. Anyone no how to do this?
