[comp.emacs] Function keys MicroEmacs 3.10 under VMS

wsincc@eutrc3.UUCP (Wim van Dorst) (06/14/89)

Hello everybody,

Recently I was given MicroEmacs 3.10 full source. This I put on
my Digital VS3200 workstation under VMS 4.7 and compiled it using
the directions in the included helpfile. There were three errors,
which I solved quite easily: cname and pathname, two variables,
were not declared the same in each file, which I therefore
changed. The third error was that the SMG$... items were
undefined. Luckily I found in the given set the file SMG.mar
which I compiled and linked in. Then I had an executable with no
warnings or errors, which runs fine but ....

As I read the VMS.c file it promises that I will be able to use
my function keys (arrows, next-page, PF1, etcetera), but I do not
get any normal response to these. For instance when I type
arrow-down twice I get ^XA-M-FN^@ Not Bound and N is inserted
in the text, for the others function keys I get similar (but
different) responses.

Will anyone please point out my error to me, and help me to get
this thing right? Many thanks in advance.

I've encountered similar problems with MicroEmacs 3.10. I was wondering
if anyone has been successful in compiling and using this software under
VMS 5.0. If so, is there a way to distribute the fixes?
