[comp.emacs] Background Garbage Collection

I just thought of something. Suppose that emacs, when suspended,
actually continued running and automatically performed a garbage
collection in background. Of course, it would have to be careful not
to use the terminal in any way, but it seems possible. When the shell
finally fg'ed it, it would come back to life. Auto saves could be done
as well. Of course, the benefit derived must be weighed against the
complexity of the implementation.

Just a thought.
