I encounter the following situation after openning two emacs windows under X: - my load average jumps up near 2.0 - when I run ps, the X server is consuming about 35% of my CPU and each emacs is consuming about 25%. These conditions will persist even if I am not doing anything in the emacs windows (i.e. I can be just sitting on my hands watching the screen). One other interesting aspect of the situation is that the resource utilization does not happen immediately upon startup of the emacs sessions. However, the following scenario invariably produces the overhead: - startup both emacs sessions - read arbitrary files into each emacs (can be same or different files) - iconify one emacs session Then, wham up goes my load average and even de-iconifying the emacs doesn't fix things. This symptom occurs both on a sparcstation and sun3. Please reply by e-mail if you have any hints. I will repost to the net if anything interesting comes out of it.
