I retrieved the ispell distribution via FTP from yale but I have been having some difficulties getting the EMACS interface to work under XENIX 2.3.2. The first bug that I found was with the spell-region and spell-buffer function. The ispell.el program pipes the region/buffer through tr to break up the text into words which are fed to ispell running in the -a mode. The command arguement to tr was incompatible with the version of tr running under XENIX. This resulted in multi-word lines being passed to ispell which of course resulted in a mal-function. I corrected the command arguement syntax and ispell now seems to be on the correct diet of single word lines. The problem that now remains is that the spell region/buffer command will not flag any spelling errors. I typed in some text with obvious spelling errors but the spell region/buffer commands return with the announcement that there were no errors detected in the string. If I move the cursor to the mispelled words and invoked the spell-word function, ispell and the EMACS interface routine correctly indicate that the word is mispelled and offers correct replacements. Anybody experience similar problems and if so find any work arounds? I have never programmed in LISP of any dialect before so all my investigation and patching is based only on intuition. If anyone has any ideas reply either to the newsgroup or via mail would be appreciated. Once again thanks in advance for any assistance that may be rendered. As always, Dr. G.W.
