Why not Option = Control on the Plus, and Command = Meta?
I have my mac kermit bound this way, and it is quite nice.
Those keys are much closer to where the control and meta keys
are on my sun at work. Command as control is very awkward.
I can't see a need to insert special mac option characters in
a text editor. If I need to do that, I'll use a word
processor. Well, most of the time, anyway.

Yes. Like in mac kermit. But with instructions, like "how to
get Option-Cmd to act like Control-Meta." ( I managed to
figure it out. )
Sorry if I'm missing anything-- I think I came in in the middle of
this conversation.
