[comp.emacs] life mode

alex@sunstone.UUCP (Alex Feldman) (01/31/90)

Life mode and life don't work properly on my machine, a 3B2-600 running
V.3.1.1 and with GNUemacs 18.54.2 (I think). Deaths occur, but no
births... which makes for a pretty uninteresting game. Is there a
patch for this extant?

What would be better, in fact, is a version of life where the user
could pick the starting configuration, and blink it along by hand, so
there would be plenty of time to study each generation. I seem to
remember CCA emacs had a mode like that. Has anyone built a .el file
which will do this that I could plug in to GNUemacs?

These aren't opinions; they are merely ruminations.

This is odd. I'd like to get confirmation of this bug from someone else
running Emacs under System V Release 3, or just System V in general.
Life runs fine on the BSD systems I use.

I'll consider adding it, but don't hold your breath waiting for it. GNU
Emacs really isn't the tool for analyzing what's happening in the Life
simulation. You're supposed to just look at the blinkin' lights... :-)
