[comp.emacs] Fix for VMS GNU Emacs when user has PWD defined as symbol

templon@silver.ucs.indiana.edu (jeffrey templon) (02/04/90)

Hi,

Someone here (or on comp.os.vms, I don't remember) posted a fix to
this problem lately. For reminders, the problem is Emacs getting the
wrong directory default (in the minibuffer after C-x C-f, etc.) if a
user starts up Emacs and has the global DCL symbol PWD defined (as
opposed to undefined.) Killing Emacs, doing DELETE/SYM/GLO PWD and
restarting Emacs fixes the problem, but someone had some code segment
which allowed one to keep the definition.

Could someone repost this? I let it slip by, thinking we would never
have anyone define PWD here, and the next week.... sheesh.

Oh yeah, VMS GNU emacs 18.55, VMS 4.7.
