[comp.emacs] Wanted: Wordperfect-like interface for Unix editor

wsinkees@lso.win.tue.nl (Kees Huizing) (02/07/90)

We are looking for an editor under Unix that has a Wordperfect-like interface.
Our secretary has to use Unix, but we don't want to confront here
(immediately) with vi. It is just an experiment and she has enough things
to get used to, so we want to keep the editor as familiar as possible.
It *definitely* doesn't need all the bells and whistles from Wordperfect, as
long as the things you use all the time (moving, inserting, replacing) work
more or less the same.

I could do some macro-hacking in vi to hide the two modes as much as possible,
but this would be a poor thing and if someone else has done this and it
*worked out well*, I would be interested.

It is intended to run on a Sun-4, with a MS-DOS PC emulating a vt100
terminal.
Perhaps someone has worked on emacs to support the most obvious functions of
the PC-keys?

There seems to be something like Wordperfect for Unix, but we don't have
money for this experiment, so... Again, we don't need all the
Wordperfect things as long as you don't hit the wrong keys all the time.

Please e-mail responses. If you post, post only to the relevant groups.

				Thank you for your time.
				Kees
