About 2 weeks ago I sent the message found below. The silence was deafening. I was wondering whether (1) the question was too difficult for anyone to answer, or (2) everyone thought that it was so easy that they'd let someone else answer it, or (3) no-one else uses both gnu emacs and less, or (4) no-one else has this problem. Anyone at all care to reply? Is there anyone not falling into category (3) or (4)? If so, I'd be happy to hear from you letting me know what OS you are using. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- When I try to edit a file from less using the `v' command, after the my .emacs file is finished and the file is read in I get the message select error: Socket operation on non-socket and a barrage of beeps. If I setenv EDITOR /usr/bin/vi instead of gnu emacs, things work well. Details: the problem is observed on both emacs 18.55 on an SGI 3130 (OS version 3.6), less version 73, and emacs 18.55 on an SGI 4D/50 (OS version 3.1G), less version 61. Anybody know the problem? Better yet, anyone know how to fix it? Thanks. Jim Diamond zsd@pig.drea.dnd.ca
