[comp.emacs] Calculator for GNU Emacs

daveg@near.cs.caltech.edu (Dave Gillespie) (05/29/90)

Version 1.00 of my calculator for GNU Emacs is finally ready. More than
just a desk calculator, Calc supports arbitrary precision integer and
floating-point arithmetic, complex numbers, vectors and matrices, units,
symbolic algebra, etc. It can handle both RPN and algebraic style
computations, and includes a minibuffer-based "quick" mode. It can
yank data to and from Emacs buffers in a variety of formats, including
C, Pascal, Fortran, TeX, and Mathematica.

Calc is written entirely in Emacs Lisp, so it will run on any GNU Emacs
installation. It includes a complete manual in Info form.

Many thanks to those brave persons who participated in the beta test a
couple months ago. Most of your suggestions have been incorporated
into this version. Among the new features are units, much-improved
algebraic manipulation, some powerful new vector/matrix operations,
interval arithmetic, a variety of formatting options, and flexible
programming using extended keyboard macros. The program is now
divided into two parts for quicker loading when all you need are
the basic arithmetic functions.

Calc is available now for anonymous FTP from csvax.caltech.edu. I plan
to post it to comp.sources.misc; it should come out there in about a week.
If you find any problems with Calc, please let me know right away so I
can fix them before the posting goes out.

Enjoy,
