[net.records] XTC review trivia answers

dce@tekecs.UUCP (David Elliott) (09/24/83)

Since somebody out there may be wandering what the answers to
the trivia questions from my review of "Mummer" (it's still
lousy) are, here goes :

1) What objects represent XTC on the "Black Sea" album cover?

The X is the bird flying overhead.
The T is the boat mast.
The C is the moon, the lighter part of which is 'C'-shaped.
(I found this out when I got the Virgin promo button set for
the album - Three buttons, each with the letter representation.)

2) What single was Homo Safari the B-side of?

The UK single of "Life Begins at the Hop" had "Homo Safari" on
it. There is a series of instrumentals called the "Homo Safari"
series. I have copies of songs 1-6 on tape, but my copy of
the single with the total number of songs in the series is
in NC, so I don't know how many there are supposed to be.

3) How do the US copies of "Drums and Wires" and "English Settlement"
	differ from the UK copies?

The US copies of "Drums and Wires" contains a three-song EP
and the song "Life Begins at the Hop"; the UK version has
a single that came with it, and did not contain "Life ...",
since during those years lots of bands put out singles that
were not on albums (there are at least 5 UK Devo singles
	with B-sides not on albums).

The US copies of "English Settlement" are single albums. A lot
of great songs from the UK double album are not on the US
	versions.

I always thought that this was pretty bad, until I figured that it made
my hard-to-get import albums worth more.

A new trivia question (not about XTC) : Some of the members of The Human
League were in another band that put out a neat album in 1976, and
split into two bands, each making records, before the formation of
The Human League. Name the three bands. (Hint : One of the split-off
bands had almost the same name as the original band, with only one
letter changed.)
