Does there exist a 8-bit clean (in the sense that one could use national etc. characters from for example ISO8859/1) emacs ? We have the Talisman 8-bit patches which enable viewing of 8-bit characters, but one has to enter national characters in a very complicated method (to insert a a-dieresis (or a-umlaut, whatever you call it) you do C-x 8 " a)... What we'd need is something which enables editing using a vt-200 or similar terminal which can be configured to produce the proper ISO codes. Ideas and suggestions by email, please. -- * * * Otto J.
