I would like to know the current status of Gnu-Emacs on VMS: VMS. Specifically: - What is the status of PTY support and sub-processes? - How do I activate the ptys? (I have Emacs 18.47, and Kevin Carosso ptys.) Specifically: .. I assume that I must define have-pty in config.h, .. what about defining "subprocesses" in config.h? If it is not defined, it seems that the code in process.c is not active, and if it is defined, several files fail to compile. - Have you got Dired to work? If yes, how? - Same question for compilation in a subprocess and display of the errors along with the code? How did you do it? - Finally, is the VMS-GNU-EMACS list still active, and is there a Bitnet list server offering it? Thank you a lot for any information or pointer you can give me. Has anyone been able to recompile any flavor of GNU EMACS on a VMS system using VAX-C? I have a copy of 18.51 on a VMS 4.7 system with VAX-C and I run into trouble right from the top - dispnew.c drops a bunch of warnings and errors - and its only the tip of the iceberg! I'm using the VMSBUILD instructions and the compile.com dcl file. Thanks, Howard Weiss hsw at tycho.ncsc.mil -------

I have recently installed GNU Emacs on VMS (5.x) and it works fine. However, I am having some problems with flow control (^S and ^Q), and I am also looking for VMS implimentations of some GNU features that don't work under VMS. 1. On most terminals I am able to get around the conflict between the search command and other key bindings that use ^S by turning off flow control on the terminal. However, when I dial into the VMS system using MSKermit version 3.02, passing through a Dec LAT TErminal server, I am unable to solve all the problems. I turn off flow control on both the terminal server and the kermit emulator, but when I type ^S to do a search, any further typing is blocked until I type ^Q. Has anyone seen (and solved) this problem for this particular configuration (MSKERMIT and DEC Terminal server)? Alternatively, can anyone recommend a redfinition of the commands that use ^S. 2. Under VMS, some features of GNU Emacs (generally involving processes) don't work. Does anyone have any implimentations of in particular dired and the mail commands? Thanks for any info. --------------------------------------------------------- Stephen A.
