I have recently started trying to use Mr Stallman's clever emacs 18.5 on my 386 (running Intel sysV.3.2). After years of using other eitors, I am used to being able to hit ^H (backspace) and have the cursor backspace & delete the previous character. While I sympathise with Mr Stallman's reasoning about ^H being for Help, I would prefer to map something like M-H to help. I have scratched around in the code, and it is become clear that Mr Stallman did _not_ want anyone to re-map ^H to anything sensible (or not in a hurry, anyway) and has hidden this stuff far, far away. Does anyone have any way of remapping this brain-damaged monster so that it works the way that ordinary people think? If so, please mail me. We don't get any of these newsgroups here :-( (yet). Any other hints to fix gnu emacs will be welcomed. If there is much interest I will summarise. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Paul Nash Flagship Wide Area Networks (Pty) Ltd paul@frcs.UUCP ...!ddsw1!proxima!frcs!paul
