[comp.emacs] help with installing v. 18.55 of gnu emacs

I'm having difficulty getting v18.55 od gnu to run on my system.

system: sun3
os: SunOS 4.1 (just upgraded)
not using X windows options

I used build-install to install the new version.  It runs fine.
when I try to run the program i get

Error (6) dumped core.

when run from gdb, it gets from main to ?? to ioctrl where it blowsup.

(i compiled with -g but why does it not give the name of the middle
function invocation ??)
