[comp.emacs] Question on emacs on X-server system

ahlenius@motcid.UUCP (Mark Ahlenius) (11/20/90)

Since going to the latest version of our OS, (Sys vR32v2) and
X11R3 and Motif on our Motorola Delta (88k) platform, the
Alt keys (meta) do not work anymore. On the previous version
of the OS (1 week ago) they worked fine in emacs.

I can use the ESC-x sequence to get the same effect, but my
fingers just don't want to learn this vi-style key sequence.

We are using NCD x-server terminals. No matter where I try
emacs on this system - either within Motif (mwm) or the x
window manager (twm) or even in the telnet session window,
the Alt keys refuse to work.

However these keys do work within Motif for other applications
so its not as though they are incorrectly mapped for X/Motif.

I have tried to set up a .xmodmap file to define the Alt keys
but this did not solve the problem.

Any hints would be appreciated. I utterly refuse to go back
to the stone ages of vi...

	thanks
