[comp.emacs] highlighting region in emacs

pi@eng.cam.ac.uk (Pablo Iglesias) (11/07/90)

I wonder whether anyone has written a patch for highlighting the
region in an emacs buffer. I'm running Emacs 18.55 on several different
systems:

  HP UX running X-windows
Sun SparcStation GLC Sun OS 4.1 running SunView and Xwindows

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Pablo

On this vein, is there a way to use xterm style highlighting in emacs?

Several people have asked about xterm style highlighting in emacs; some of
whom may have not realized that it requires patching emacs's C code and
recompilation ...

A patch for setting attributes (underline and inverse) was posted to
gnu.emacs on 19 Dec 89 by Kenichi Handa (handa@etl.go.jp) ; you may want
to ask him for an up-to-date version (I have a copy of the posted one, but
never got around to try it).

Several people asked about patching emacs to do xterm style highlighting.
Kenichi Handa (handa@etl.go.jp) have posted a year ago to gnu.emacs a
patch that adds attributes (underline and inverse) to emacs. You can try
and ask him for some current version. (I have the posted one but got around
to try it).
