I installed emacs 18.55 on my unix-pc (AT&T 7300) and everything worked great except rmail. rmail calls movemail, which tries to create a temporary file in /usr/mail. It choked because ordinary users don't have write permission to /usr/mail. I was tempted to make movemail setuid to root because my system doesn't need to be secure but I decided I should find out how it's really supposed to be done. I remember the "Cuckoo's Nest" controversy and I remember it being said that movemail is not supposed to be setuid root but I don't remember anyone spelling out exactly how it should be installed. Any ideas? Maybe the procedure should be part of the README that is distributed with emacs.
