[comp.emacs] vip-mode difference to vi question

ksuzuki@engin.umich.edu (Katsu Animania Suzuki) (12/19/90)

Hi, I am very new user of emacs and since I have been using vi for long time,
I am using it in vip-mode. I am quite satisfied with many extension which
vi does not have, but two features that is different from vi sometimes
irritate me. I read info pages of vip, and it did not mention these differences
so I would like to ask to net-world.

 1. R works differntly.
(overwrite in vi, while replace in vip. where is overwrite in vip???)

 2. newline character seems to be treated as one character.
(as if one extra character exist at the end of each line. also moving
right from there moves to begining of next line.)

Are they inevitable? Or anybody have fix for these? Since I am not familiar
with lisp, easy-explanation is appreciated. Either post or mail is fine,
since I suppose some other guys might be interested in same issue. If you
are also interested in this, drop me a line and I will forward answers.

Thanks in advance!
